The Implications for Helioseismology of Experimental Uncertainties in Newton’s Constant

چکیده
The experimental uncertainties in G between different experiments have important implications for helioseismology. We show that these uncertainties for the standard solar model lead to a range in the value of the square of the sound speed in the nuclear region that is as much as 0.15% higher than the inverted helioseismic sound speed. While a lower value of G is preferred for the standard model, any definite prediction is masked by the uncertainties in the solar models available in the literature. However future refinements of helioseismology with an accuracy of the order of 10 to 10 in the square of the sound speed, especially in combination with precision measurements of the 8 B solar neutrino flux should be capable of independently testing these experimental

I discuss three issues relevant to solar neutrino flux measurements: cross section uncertainties in pp chain reactions, uncertainties in the GALLEX/SAGE response to 7 Be and 51 Cr neutrinos, and the implications of helioseismology for nonstandard suns with mixed cores. A few comments are also offered on νe ↔ ντ oscillations, cosmologically interesting neutrino masses, and recent proposals for s...
متن کاملRobust gain-scheduled control of linear parameter-varying systems with uncertain scheduling parameters in the presence of the time-invariant uncertainties
In this paper, a new approach is presented to design a gain-scheduled state-feedback controller for uncertain linear parameter-varying systems. It is supposed that the state-space matrices of them are the linear combination of the uncertain scheduling parameters. It is assumed that the existed uncertainties are of type of time-invariant parametric uncertainties with specified intervals. Simulta...
متن کاملThe Newtonian constant of gravitation-a constant too difficult to measure? An introduction.
It is generally accepted that the magnitude of the force attracting two spherical bodies of mass M1 and M2, separated by a distance r, is given by Newton’s law of gravitation F = G M1M2 r2 . The constant, G, determines the strength of Newton’s inverse square law in a particular system of physical units and is, not surprisingly, known as Newton’s constant of gravitation. It is considered to be a...
متن کاملEconomic Production Quantity Models with Shortage, Price and Stock-Dependent Demand for Deteriorating Items
This investigation presents an economic production quantity (EPQ) model for deteriorating items with stock-dependent demand and shortages. It is assumed that a constant fraction of the on-hand inventory deteriorates and demand rate depends upon the amount of the stock level. Expression for various optimal indices as well as cost analysis are provided. By taking numerical illustration, sensitivi...
متن کاملHelioseismic tests of diffusion theory
We present a quantitative estimate of the accuracy of the calculated diffusion coefficients, by comparing predictions of solar models with observational data provided by helioseismology. By taking into account the major uncertainties in building solar models we conclude that helioseismology confirms the diffusion efficiency adopted in SSM calculations, to the 10% level.
